Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
💔 Reusable Pads
1. How do I wash and care for reusable pads?
Before first use, wash your pads to activate absorbency. After each use, rinse or soak if desired, then machine wash. A regular cycle is best — gentle cycles often don’t fully clean and may leave odor. Avoid small loads, as machines may default to soft, ineffective wash modes. Tumble dry on medium heat or air dry. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners.
2. How often should I change my pad?
Every 4 hours or sooner, depending on your flow. Heavy flow days might require more frequent changes, while liners for light discharge can often last longer.
3. Are cloth pads comfortable to wear?
Yes! Our pads are soft, breathable, and non-bulky. Many customers say they’re more comfortable than disposables — no plastic, no irritation, no noise.
4. Can teens or beginners use cloth pads?
Absolutely! We offer pads sized specifically for teens and beginners. They’re simple to use, gentle on the skin, and a great way to start a confident, sustainable period routine.
5. How absorbent are Hume’s pads?
Our medium pads absorb more than a regular disposable. Heavy pads hold up to 15ml. Each core is layered for the flow level it’s designed for and includes a waterproof PUL backing.
6. What materials are your pads made of?
-
Soft cotton fabric on the outside
-
100% organic cotton absorbent core
-
Hidden eco-friendly PUL layer for leak protection
All materials are breathable, washable, and free from harmful chemicals.
7. How long do reusable cloth pads last?
With proper care, our pads can last 3–5 years or longer. They’re made for repeated use and gentle on the environment.
8. How can I remove stains from cloth pads?
Rinse with cold water as soon as possible after use. For stubborn stains, use a natural stain remover or soak with baking soda or diluted hydrogen peroxide (spot test first). Sun-drying also helps naturally lift stains.
9. What kind of soap should I use?
Mild, fragrance-free detergents are best. Avoid soaps with added oils, softeners, or strong scents — these can coat the fabric and reduce absorbency. Castile soap or eco-friendly powder detergents work well.
10. What washing cycle should I use?
Use a regular cycle, not gentle. Some machines don’t wash thoroughly on gentle and may leave pads smelling or semi-clean. Make sure your load is full enough to trigger a proper wash. For drying, use a medium heat cycle or finish with air drying if still slightly damp.
🪧 Menstrual Cups & Discs
1. How long can I wear a cup or disc?
You can wear your Hume’s Cup or Disc for up to 12 hours, depending on your flow. On heavier days, you may want to empty it sooner to avoid leaks and maintain comfort.
2. How do I insert and remove a menstrual cup or disc?
Each product includes step-by-step instructions in the box.
-
Cup: Fold and insert below the cervix. To remove, locate the base (not the stem), gently pinch to break the seal, and then pull out slowly. The stem is only for locating the cup — never pull from it directly.
-
Disc: Insert by tucking it behind the pubic bone. To remove, hook a clean finger under the front rim and gently pull it out.
3. What size should I choose?
We offer:
-
Size 1 – for users under 30 or who haven’t given birth
-
Size 2 – for users over 30 or who have given birth
While some users may benefit from a smaller size, we currently do not offer a Mini cup. A sizing quiz is in development and will be available soon.
4. Can I use a cup or disc if I have an IUD?
Please check with your gynecologist before using a cup or disc with an IUD. Some doctors may recommend trimming your IUD strings or avoiding internal products, depending on your anatomy and string length.
5. Can I use a menstrual cup or disc if I’m pregnant or going through menopause?
-
Pregnant? Please speak with your healthcare provider before using internal menstrual products.
-
Menopausal? Many users prefer cups or discs because they don’t dry out the vaginal canal and help maintain natural pH.
6. Can teens use a cup or disc?
Yes — many teens choose reusable products. However, we do not currently offer the Mini size, which is often recommended for younger users. If you’re new to internal products, we recommend speaking with a trusted adult or doctor before getting started.
7. How do I clean my cup or disc?
Between uses, rinse with water — or water and a mild, fragrance-free soap if desired. This is up to personal preference and comfort.
Boiling is not required every time. Instead, boil for 5–7 minutes at the start and end of each cycle for deep sanitizing. Let dry completely before storing in its pouch.
8. Can I wear a disc during intimacy?
Some users do report mess-free intimacy with a disc in place, but every body is different. Discs are designed to sit higher in the vaginal canal and may not be felt during sex. Try it carefully and see what works best for you.
9. What is your return policy?
We’re working on updating our return and refund policy with clear details. For now, please contact us directly within 30 days if you experience any issues — we’re here to help and want to make it right.
